Ahead its August 17 national convention, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will conduct local government congresses on August 12.
The caretaker committee has also approved the conduct of state congresses in the Imo and Yobe state chapters where the congresses were not conducted or concluded in May 2016.
The two congresses are scheduled to be held on Monday, 8 August 2016.
According to a statement yesterday by Sen. Abdul Ningi, who heads the organisation and mobilisation department of the committee, the repeat Ward and LGA Congresses across country is in compliance of Sections 15 (1) (e) and 18 (1) (g) of the PDP Constitution (As Amended in 2012) which provides “that 3 Ad-Hoc delegates shall be elected at Ward Congresses to LGA and state congresses.
“Section 18 (2) (c) stipulates that National Delegates shall be elected at LGA Congresses to the National Convention. In both cases, Ward Ad-Hoc and National Delegates shall cease to function at the conclusion of congresses or National Convention for which they were elected.
