Former minister elected as PDP BoT secretary

Chief Ojo Maduekwe, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been elected as the new secretary to the Board of Trustee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was elected at the BoT meeting holding at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, This Day reports.

The party also endorsed Senator Waheed Jibril as the substantive chairman of the body. Report has it that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the national chairman of the party tried to reconcile with the aggrieved BoT members but some are still angry.

The aggrieved members are said to be unhappy with an alleged move by the Sheriff- led NWC to amend the constitution of the party in order to muzzle and control the BoT, thereby subjecting it to the whims and caprices of the NWC.

The PDP seems to be divided ahead of its national convention scheduled for May 21, in Port Harcourt. Some party chieftains opposing the reelection of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the party chairman have threatened to hold a parallel convention. Some have asked the the convention be postponed.

A coalition of democratic like-minds for the reform of the PDP warned members of the NWC against seeking reelection, saying it was a shame hat some persons want to seek reelection after mismanaging the post-defeat era of the party and squandering the leftover resources of the party.
